The Empire Computer Room

Did you ever wonder what kind of computer Empire runs on? You may have heard of the HP3000 but that doesn't mean you've ever seen one.

The following pictures show the HP3000 Model 922LX that Empire runs on as well as its larger and newer cousins in the same computer room.

Note the particular model that runs Empire (as well as this web page) was manufactured on or about 1989. It is currently running the MPE/iX operating system verion 6.0 released in 1999. The continuing viability of this HP3000 platform over the span of over 11 years is primarily due to HP's commitment to its product.

Also note that this computer is running a software game that is over 25 years old in design. Can you say the same for a PC based game running on a Microsoft Operating System?
