A Long, Long Time Ago (Part 12)

by Russell Bird

Neomi felt the power of the Force moving through her. It had allowed her to sneak her way through the station and she was now on the upper loading floor. She looked to her target: the aged man who had been called Emirikol was in front of her now, only a short distance away. It would be a simple matter to strike him down. He was all alone now that all of his servants were below on the Station floor, prepping the star cruiser for take off. She could strike him down and Murlynd would be free to teach her everything. She would make him proud!

She turned the lightsaber over in her hands and felt that she knew how to use it by instinct. She flipped a switch and a bright blue blade sprung from the handle. Feeling confidant, she stepped forward to kill Emirikol...

...but found herself staring at a group of perfect mirror images of the old man. As she watched, all of the images began to gesture and speak in a language she had never heard. Before she was able to respond, she was thrown backward into a support wall.

"I sense the force move in you. Come with me, young one! I will teach you everything you need to know. If you prove yourself worthy, you may rule at my side! Come with me!"

Neomi listened to the words and felt the power move in him. She raised Murlynd's lightsaber, but could not strike. Feeling the evil in this man, and feeling his aspirations... they were nothing like the kind and gentle soul that was Murlynd. In a moment of clarity, she switched off the lightsaber and let it drop to the gangplank. "No, I will not!"

"So be it!" Said Emirikol, a single image now, as he began to move away.

"You are going nowhere!" Spoke a voice behind Neomi. She turned and saw Murlynd and another man in armour. The lightsaber flew into Murlynd's hand and he fired up the beam. As Neomi watched, the armoured man also drew a lightsaber and both held their weapons in stillness.

"We would have words with you Emirikol!" Said Murlynd.

To be continued.
