    This classic video tape dates from 1988 and shipped with all 7980 reel tape drives.  Mark Bixby's real-life CE at the time was named Bob, same as the fictional CE on the tape, and this was good for much joking at his expense.  ;-)

    This video presentation is a general discussion of tape drives and the prevention of read/write errors.

    Hewlett-Packard systems, unlike some non-HP systems, do not allow the tape drive to write data/format errors to tape.  This feature provides 100% error free recording, thus assuring that errors introduced by contamination and normal tape wear will be easily corrected when the data is read.
