Murlynd looked at the scarred face of Jel Tynarva, the most notorious Bounty Hunter in the region, and smirked with annoyance. "This would be so much easier without your interference Kelanen!"
The stone-hearted bounty hunter laughed and lowered his weapon. "You forced my hand! If you seek to take such drastic action as hunting down this rogue wizard, then the balance must be served."
"This is no game anymore..."
"I never said it was! You were supposed to have committed yourself fully to your new responsibilities, and yet we find you here Murlynd! You just could not let go, could you? You have drawn us time and time again into your crusades and we find ourselves having to help tidy up your mistakes. To think that I had to get myself hired by him!"
"I am here alone to set right the imbalance... or at least I thought I was. Can you not respect that?" Murlynd pleaded.
"I can," replied Kelanen, "but there is still much to do, thanks to your recklessness. Emirikol is entrenched below. He must be captured swiftly. Without direction, his hirelings will disband and go on our rightful pursuits."
Both of the aspirant hero gods looked below at the encampment. They saw Neomi weave her way stealthily toward an entrance that was not guarded.
"That would be Neomi Jesgage I presume. She seems to be something of a prodigy, a most... unexpected prodigy." Kelanen said.
"Yes, she is indeed..." Murlynd said quietly as he closed his eyes.
Looking at his colleague with a look of judgmental scorn, Kelanen said "will that make it harder for you to kill her when we have retrieved Emirikol, or would you prefer that I do it?"
To be continued.
