A Long, Long Time Ago (Part 9)

by Russell Bird

Neomi looked down upon the Pumping Station. Beneath the flood-lights, it was plain to see that it was heavily guarded, and many probe droids patrolled the perimeter. She wondered how Murlynd planned to get in, and when he did that... "What will we do now?" She asked.

"We shall watch and wait awhile. I am looking for an opening." Murlynd replied.

Neomi felt her frustration rising. Nothing he was doing seemed to make any sense. She looked below as Murlynd resumed his search with the macrobinoculars. Willing herself to relax, she tried to hear the conversation below. As she had done on many occasions, she was able to hear those voices, and was able to see an unguarded entrance. Why was Murlynd not able to see this? She stared at his lightsaber. As she stared, she found herself able to pull at it with her mind. To her surprise, it detached itself from his belt and flew into her hand. Having the means and seeing the opportunity, she started off down the trail to the Station. She would apologize later when she had captured Emirikol. It was the least she could do to repay Murlynd's kindness. She was convinced that if she could pull this off, Murlynd would agree to take her as his Padawan learner.

Murlynd looked up and looked toward the rapidly departing Neomi. His face distorted with sadness, he was about to call a warning, when he sensed danger behind him. Whirling around, he found himself staring into the firing range of a bowcaster.

"You're dead!" Said Jel Tynarva.

To be continued.
